Australia vs China PR
Australia played the role of the 'host' team as they faced The People's Republic of China at the Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The Socceroos had been in scintillating form despite the fact they haven't played a single match on home soil, winning 8 matches in a row. They welcomed back midfield superstars Tom Rogic and Aaron Mooy, together for the first time since November 2019.
it took less than 25 minutes for Australia to take control with FC Midtjylland winger Awer Mabil opening the scoring with a beautiful volley. He was followed closely by a long-range strike from Martin Boyle just a few minutes later. Mitch Duke completed the rout less than a minute after coming off the bench as the Socceroos secured their 9th win in a row for only the second time in 99 years.
It could have been more. The Green and Gold had 23 shots, 9 on target. The Chinese national side couldn't muster one shot on target from their 7 attempts.
In other clashes, Korea Republic was held to a draw by a plucky Iraqi side, and heavyweights Japan suffered a shock defeat at home to Oman 1-0.
Results
Group A: UAE 0-0 Lebanon, Iran 1-0 Syria, Korea Republic 0-0 Iraq
