Jojo Siwa Makes History With Same-Sex Dance Partner on Dancing With The Stars

Updated: Oct 14, 2021

It’s confirmed - Jojo Siwa will be paired with a female dance partner on Dancing With The Stars this fall. It’s an important move in America. Siwa will be making history with her dance partner on Dancing With The Stars, as this is the first time that DWTS has had a same-sex couple perform.

While other countries’ versions of DWTS haven’t blinked at two women dancers working together, it’s a bold move in America. Jojo, star of J Team movie and former Dance Moms alumni, notes in an interview with Today that she was offered two ptions. She could have a female partner, or stick with a more traditional male dancer. Jojo responds in the interview, “That is so groundbreaking. (It’s) history, never been done before and it needs to be done.”

Who is Jojo Siwa’s DTWS Dance Partner?

It’s unofficial, but Jojo might have accidentally spilled the tea on her upcoming dance partner. In an interview with E! News Daily Pop, Siwa states that girlfriend Kylie Prew told her, “Tell Jenna she needs to leave room for Jesus,” before the first rehearsal.

Could this mean her partner is DWTS pro Jenna Johnson? At least we won’t have long to wait for proof - Dancing With The Stars will premiere on Sept. 20.

Jojo Gives A Sneak Peek Of Her Moves In Dance-Off With Jimmy Fallon

J Team star Jojo Siwa stopped by The Tonight Show to chat with host Jimmy Fallon. The first topic, of course, was Siwa’s girlfriend Prew. Then they briefly talked about a (joke?) petition on Change.org to rename Washington Airport after Siwa. And of course, her upcoming DWTS premiere was next. But first, they danced!

This isn’t Jojo’s first dance-off against Fallon - YouTube clips on the show’s site confirm they battled 7 months ago as well. An even earlier competition occurred in 2019. Naturally, Siwa wins every time.

Is Jojo Siwa LGBT?

Performing on television with a female dance partner is no gimmick for Siwa. She officially came out as LGBT back in January. Hints came out in several TikTok videos by the star, including a dance to an unofficial LGBTQ anthem “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga.

A less subtle statement came out soon after, on January 22. She shared a simple picture of herself in a t-shirt that read “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.” In April, Siwa offered a bit more context in an interview with ‘People’, adding that she identifies as pansexual.

What Is Pansexuality?

Pansexuality falls under the LGBT umbrella. It specifically refers to someone who doesn’t have a specific attraction to any particular gender. Oxford defines it as “not limited with sexual choice in regard to biological sex, gender or gender identity.” Jojo herself said it best in her People Interview when she summed it up - “My human is my human.”

Who Is Kylie Prew?

Jojo Siwa has been officially dating her girlfriend Kylie Prew since January 8th. She reveals in a February Instagram that, “After being my best friend for over a year, January 8th 2021 I got to start calling this exceptional human my Girlfriend... and Since then I’ve been the happiest I have ever been!”

The two originally met on a cruise ship. Prew is a high school student in Florida, slated to graduate in 2022. She plays varsity basketball, according to a school profile.

Jojo, who is 18, continues a long-distance relationship with her girlfriend Prew. Siwa resides in Los Angeles.

Jojo Siwa Victim of ‘Swatting’ After She Comes Out

While many celebrities were quick to support the Dance Mom’s alumni when she first came out in January, it hasn’t been all positive.

After a Livestream on Instagram, where Siwa spoke about coming out and how happy she was, police responded to a call about an alleged incident at her residence in Los Angeles.

Youtube footage uploaded by channel TRQFFIC shows Siwa and her family standing outside the home, with police officers. The incident occurred on January 23, 2021.

Swatting is an illegal act in the US, involving calling the police on an innocent person. This occurs false pretenses. The goal is convincing police that the target is a harmful or hostile criminal. As a result, the victim may be startled, or even wrongfully arrested, by the police.
