Turning Point 9/11 And The War On Terror
'Turning Point' is the latest in Netflix's litany of brilliant docu-series. The five-part series covers the events of 9/11 and the subsequent war on terror. It puts a spotlight on both the correct moves and the mistakes the US government made in the wake of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. From torture tactics in Guantanamo Bay to the ill-fated search for WMDs in Iraq, no stone is left unturned in this no-holds-barred documentary event.
The documentary leaves nothing to be desired as it seeks to give viewers a fully rounded, in-depth look at not only the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the controversial war on terror that proceeded it but also the history of events that lead up to it. A lot of this was new information for me.
From the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 to the withdrawal of US troops in 2021, director Brian Knappenberger speaks to influential political figures, veterans, and media personalities about their involvement - be it direct or indirect - in the whole saga.
There is some brutal video and still footage that I found hard to watch, but I wouldn't say it was gratuitous. The harrowing personal accounts of people who were in NYC that fateful day are haunting. You can't help but be moved by their heartbreaking stories. The director is unflinching in his determination to serialize the timeline of events warts and all.
Extremely informative documentary on a piece of recent history that changed the world forever. Even if you think you have all the facts about 9/11 and the War on Terror - I urge you to take a look at this brilliant piece of documentary filmmaking.
