US Open '21: Djokovic Into Final

Updated: Oct 13, 2021

Serbian Chasing Historic 21st Title

Novak Djokovic stands on the precipice of tennis history after a 5 set victory over German Alexander Zverev.

It was no walk in the park for the World Number 1, as Zverev threatened to upset the Serbian when he took the 1st set 6-4. Novak rallied back to win the following two sets, but the big German refused to say die. He ended up winning the 4th and sending it to an enthralling final set.

Djokovic won the first 5 games of that final set to take the sting out of the match completely. Despite some heroic rallies and a mini-comeback from Zverev, the result was never in doubt in the final set.

Post-match Djokovic was very complimentary of his opponent and the crowd as he looks forwards to the final in two day’s time.

“The atmosphere was amazing, the best of the tournament so far. Thank you so much. These are the moments we live for.”
“he’s (Zverev) a big champion, he’s someone I admire on and off the court.”

The only thing standing in Djokovic’s way of attaining immortality on the tennis court is world number two Daniil Medvedev. Beat him and the mythical 21st grand slam title, along with the calendar year grand slam, won’t be so mythical anymore.
