Zayn and Gigi Break-Up

What We Know About The Split

Zayn and Gigi

There's trouble in paradise!

On October 28th, it was revealed by People that power-couple, pop-star Zayn Malik, and model Gigi Hadid are officially splitting up due to recent allegations of domestic assault. This came as a massive, startling surprise to fans of both celebrities who have followed the couple since it was announced they were dating in late 2015 after being photographed together at an awards ceremony and a restaurant shortly after. Throughout their six-year relationship, the couple has faced multiple highs and lows, swiveling from on-again to off-again. From previous break-up rumors to the first official break-up in 2018 to posting cutesy Instagram posts boasting trips together and late-night cuddle sessions to the announcement of Gigi’s pregnancy -- one of many so-called “quarantine pregnancies” -- and then finally the birth of their daughter Khai in September of last year. So while the couple has a history of previous break-ups, this one seems much more serious and concerning than ones in the past.

Here’s what we know about the situation as of right now. On October 28th, TMZ reported that Gigi’s mother Yolanda Hadid claims Zayn struck her and that she was pondering on the idea of filing a police report. Following this, Zayn wasted no time and released a statement regarding the claims. In his statement, which he posted from his Twitter account, Zayn remained vague enough to not reveal intimate details about the argument but direct enough that fans could infer he was in fact discussing Yolanda’s claims. He first states that he wants, more than anything else, to ensure his daughter is raised in a safe environment away from the public eye which is the reason,

“I agreed not to contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago.”

But evidently, this would not be enough.

Following the initial statement, Zayn offered a more straightforward comment to TMZ in which he states:

“I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid…and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private.”

After an intense, scandalous day of statements, it was finally reported that Zayn and Gigi had indeed broken up as a result of Yolanda’s claim. Since the initial claims were made, it has been revealed that Zayn is currently facing four counts of harassment of both, in a twist nobody could see coming, Yolanda and Gigi. Zayn has pleaded guilty to the charges and thus has to pay a fine and is now to spend 360 days on probation in which he will be monitored closely. He also has to undergo anger management classes and a domestic violence program. He must also cease further contact with Yolanda. While the exact details should not have necessarily been revealed, it comes as no surprise that they were considering the high-profile status of the couple in conjunction with the high stakes of the situation. According to the court documents released by TMZ, Zayn was upset by Yolanda’s presence in the home he and Gigi share, screaming at Gigi to “strap on some fucking balls and defend your partner against your fucking mother in my house.” He went on, while in an argument with Yolanda, to shove her into a dresser and berate her with seething insults.

All of this comes as a devastating blow to fans of the couple, who could have never expected the relationship to end in such an explosive, awful and shocking way. With thirteen-month-old Khai in the midst of all of this, the situation is worrisome to many fans. Our thoughts are with the Hadid family as they maneuver through this troubling time. And of course, we hope to see Zayn benefit from the treatment he will receive as a result of the charges.

Only time will tell what happens next.
